Wood For The Fireplace

I’m COLD!

The Gwinnett County, Georgia, Extension Services offer this well known tip:

When you are building a fire this winter, use only seasoned wood. Green or freshly cut wood will burn, only slower with much less heat value. Not to mention the fact that it puts off much more soot that clings into the walls of the chimney. Seasoned wood burns hotter and gives off more heat. Try cutting the wood you will use in the fall/winter 2012 now. That way it can dry and be ready for next year.
Do not store firewood in your garage! You invite termites and other insects into your home while keeping the wood dry and close.
